With some wonderful spring-like weather this past week, my thoughts have been turning towards cottons and warm-weather clothes!
While I was browsing Penny Rose Fabric to look for inspiration for a new project, I was struck by the number of different strawberry prints they offer and I got totally inspired to wander down the rabbit trail to look for vintage strawberry-themed clothing!

Ohhhh dear. Dress #10 in the Shabby Strawberry cream colored fabric. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving me fabric envy! ;) I can't wait to see your strawberry dress - I just know it will be absolutely adorable!! :)
Oh, and I hope you make that pattern that you like soon! I would love to see you in some more '40s styles!! :)
I just realized that the pattern doesn't actually include the strawberry design.... sadness. :-( Oh well, off that idea goes into the long-term storage! I'm sure it will see the light of day at some point... ;-)
DeleteCan't wait to see what you end up making!
ReplyDeleteI have some strawberry shaped buttons that I've been hoarding for years. This is making me want to pull them out right now!
ReplyDeleteOoh! Those sound like such fun! :-)
DeleteOoh some of those dresses are really charming!! I have two strawberry prints in my stash. Now I need to check and see if I have enough to make anything with them! Thanks for this post! Now I'm craving strawberries and cream, lol! :)

I have always loved that turquoise 1940s strawberry dress that you shared a picture of here since I first laid eyes on it. I can't wait to see what you make!

I never realized that strawberries were used so much. I usually think of cherries as being the fruit of choice for dressmaking.
ReplyDeleteI know- me too! I was so pleasantly surprised that I actually had enough source material to make an enjoyable blog post! ;-)
DeleteVery much strawberry-dress coveting over here! I wouldn't change a thing about the first dress in the post.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. ;-)
DeleteOoh, the second dress is really cute, and I've never seen a dress with the zipper in the front like that!
ReplyDeleteStrawberries! I love them. ^-^ Those fabrics are to die for. They really remind me of some Cath Kidston prints.
ReplyDeleteThat pale turquoise dress! Years ago I owned the exact same one, except it was a dressing gown. The styling is identical. I wonder if this one was cut into a dress length at some point or if they made 2 different styles.
ReplyDeleteThat is so neat, Julie!!
DeleteAdore more than all the number of all the strawberries in the world. I've always been a huge fan of anything depicting (or shaped like) this timeless, sweet little fruit and am swooning up an epic storm right now over each of these beauties. Thank you for putting this berry enjoyable post together for us! :)
ReplyDeleteMany hugs,
♥ Jessica
I can hardly wait for spring too! I am dying to bust out the sundresses- and now I have a serious need to sew some strawberry prints!

ReplyDeleteI have a dress in the same fabric as the lady doing her nails! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10103585037807318&set=t.2727599&type=3&theater
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing, Laura!!
